Faculty members of UBC Forestry were heavily represented among the international researchers contributing to the recently published Cambridge University Press book, Sustainable Development Goals: Their Impacts on Forests and People.
Unveiled at the XXV IUFRO World Congress held in Brazil in October 2019, the book examines the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, how forests can help to achieve these goals, and how may impact forests and the people that depend upon them. Through an open, independent, collaborative network of scientists and experts from around the world, the book discusses the conditions that influence how SDG activities are implemented and provides a global assessment of interlinkages among the SDGs and their targets. Nineteen of the 120 authors were from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Forestry.
An IUFRO special project coordinated by the Natural Resources Institute Finland, the book is recommended for a wide audience including decision-makers, teachers, students and researchers seeking a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of sustainably managed forests.
