The UBC Wood Products Processing Students have formed a student chapter of the Forest Products Society.

The Forest Products Society (FPS) is an international not-for-profit technical association. Society members represent a broad range of professional interests, including private and public research and development, industrial management and production, marketing, education, government, engineering, and consulting.

The UBC FPS-student chapter is one of 22 student chapters across North America (and is one of the largest). The membership fee for students is US$25; this fee includes 10 editions of the Forest Products Journal (a technical journal illustrating some of the research activities in the wood field), a free listing in the FPJ upon graduation (advertising availability for employment), and special student rates at FPS meetings and conferences.

The UBC student chapter is run by students for students. Over the last couple of years, the following activities have been successfully organized.

  • Annual careers night
  • Bat-house building
  • Bridge building competition
  • Chair design competition
  • Alumni Mentor Evenings
  • A student-run web page
