The possibilities of sustainable innovation are endless when working with a renewable resource.

If you are innovative or have interests in engineering and problem solving, the Bachelor of Science in Wood Products Processing is ideal for you.

More and more, the world is demanding sustainable and innovative products, and UBC is considered a world leader in advancing the science of wood product potential. UBC is home to one of the tallest wood buildings in the world with the construction of Brock Commons. UBC’s Department of Wood Science is always on the cutting-edge of innovations in wood production.

Why choose a BSc in Wood Product Processing?

Understanding the merits of a sustainable product for the use in building, manufacturing, and engineering while exploring innovative product potentials for wood will equip you to meet demands from the world of tomorrow. Throughout the program, students have access to Canada’s national centre of excellence for wood products at our extensive facilities housed in our Centre for Advanced Wood Processing.

Students have the benefit of pursuing an interdisciplinary degree that explores science, engineering, and business with a cohort of like-minded peers. They are also encouraged to consider the Co-op program where doors are opened to diverse and exciting career opportunities, and they would be able to connect with leaders in the sector.

Students have opportunities to get involved with many innovative projects undertaken by the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing. Examples include design sets for the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic venues in Vancouver and Whistler, 23 distinctive wooden medal ceremony podia as well as 84 medal trays for the 2010 Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Our program is the proud winner of the Yves Landry Foundation Award for the Most Innovative Manufacturing Technology Program at the University Level and the Alfred Scow Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Student Experience and Learning Environment at the University of British Columbia.
